Competency for Logistics

Internationally recognised Standards for the Certification of Logistics Experts

“This programme contributes to the development of knowledge, skills and competencies required for ELA-certification by the European Certification Board for Logistics”.

The globalisation of economies and the resulting emergence of worldwide logistics networks at a high quality level demand the cross-border cooperation of logistics experts on the basis of internationally excepted standards of competency. Suitable competencies, developed in a Europe-wide cooperation, increase the flexibility of deployment of logisticians for the execution of logistics tasks. Therefore, these competencies are of great importance for the personal development of the individual as well as for the efficiency of the organisation. A standardised competency, evidenced by a recognised certificate, is of increasing importance for employment decision taken by personnel managers as well. The European Logistics Association (ELA) laid the foundation for an internationally recognised training scheme for logistics experts. A certification programme, implemented Europe-wide, qualifies logistics experts for worldwide employment. Organisations outside of Europe have taken over this concept and utilising it successfully.

The ELA certification places the experienced practitioner of logistics at centre stage. This means that practical experience is of high importance for the certification of the aspired level. An academic education is not compulsory for obtaining an ELA certificate. Therefore, the ELA certificate is for many decision-makers in the logistics industry the ideal possibility, to engage in further qualification and to prove this with an internationally recognised certificate. With a certificate of the European Logistics Association you document
  • substantiated broad logistical knowledge
  • ability to apply this knowledge
  • experience in practical logistics tasks.
The logistics expert, certified according to ELA standards, is characterised by competently working in internationally focused logistics networks.

The DGfL Deutsche Gesellschaft für Logistik (German Association for Logistics) executes the certification of logistics experts in the name of the BVL Bundesvereinigung Logistik (Federal Federation of Logistics). Candidates for the ELA certification prepare for the examinations by attending courses in training institutions that are recognised and accredited by the DGfL.

To ensure their high quality standard, the DGfL works together with training institutions that offer training courses corresponding to the three levels of the ELA certification scheme. These training courses are specifically tuned to the standards of competency of ELA. Through a high transparency concerning course details and lecturers, prospective participants are offered a good orientation prior to the commencement of the training.

The offer of the ELA is addressed to all experts whose tasks and responsibilities require substantiated, up to date logistical experience and knowledge and who wish to develop their professional knowledge further. Often, an increased international orientation is also aimed for.

These certificate examinations are individual examinations. They are conducted under the supervision of the Independent German Certification Board (IGCB). Next to very good theoretical knowledge, competency in applying this knowledge in practice plays a decisive role.

Within the framework of the certification of logistics managers, the DGfL works very intensively together with training institutions in the area of logistics. HPTI Hamburg Port Training Institute GmbH is accredited as a training partner of the DGfL.
